Crafting clear, confident copy for a climate-conscious agency

Creating a compliant, impactful voice for the web agency, madeby.studio

“We now have a way of communicating that feels consistently clear, confident and credible; true to our madeby.studio values.”

Matt Wheeler, Director at madeby.studio

What they wanted: Clarity with integrity

madeby.studio is a web agency with a conscience, committed to digital sustainability and clear communication.

They wanted their website copy to truly reflect their brand values: a tone that’s confident, jargon-free, and lean, but still full of personality.

In a sector awash with greenwash, every environmental claim had to stand up against the CMA Green Claims Code.

And, they needed a system that made sure anyone writing for madeby.studio in future could pick up the tone instantly and stay on message.

 What I delivered:

1. A confident, conversational, jargon-free tone

We began with a collaborative tone of voice workshop, rooted in the team’s insight and values. Together we explored what it means to sound like madeby.studio: confident but never arrogant, expert without being overbearing, and always approachable.

From this, I developed a voice that feels assured and personable by being    confident, authentic and clear. It positions madeby.studio as a trustworthy expert who knows their stuff, but explains it in plain, relatable language.

2. Crisp, no-fluff copy

Every line of copy was shaped to respect the reader’s time and attention. We stripped out buzzwords, acronyms, and filler, leaving only what added value.

This gave the website a rhythm that feels purposeful and easy to follow: sentences that are short, active, and direct. The result is web copy that informs and inspires without overwhelming, bringing energy and clarity to subjects that can often feel complex or abstract.

3. CMA-compliant green messaging

Sustainability is central to madeby.studio’s story, so accuracy mattered. We reviewed each claim with the CMA Green Claims Code in mind, ensuring wording was transparent, evidence-based, and specific.

For example, vague terms like “eco-friendly websites” were replaced with measurable claims such as “low-carbon websites that reduce page weight and energy use.” This approach avoids greenwash and builds long-term trust by showing how impact is achieved, not just stating it exists.

4. Remote refinement

Once the first drafts were complete, we worked closely together, sharing, discussing, and iterating remotely. Every round tightened the copy further, sharpening tone and structure so the final voice felt consistent across the site.

The process reflected madeby.studio’s collaborative ethos: open, thoughtful, and guided by the belief that good ideas get better when shaped together.

5. Future-ready tone guidelines

Finally, I packaged everything into a tone of voice guide. It distilled the principles we’d developed—confidence, authenticity, clarity—into practical rules and examples.

This guide means future writers don’t have to guess what “sounding like madeby.studio” looks like. From second-person writing to active voice, plain language to CMA compliance, the rules are clear and easy to apply. The brand now has a voice toolkit that scales with them, keeping their message consistent as they grow.
